Introduction to the Tana River Community Forest Association Representatives

What an event! We had the best time being formally introduced to the CFA representatives. The CFA members were there to represent the communities who will be serving as stewards and partners to the project. We were able to learn about the current threats to the mangroves as well as the communities' fears & expectations.

We were able to share who we are, what are carbon credits and how the communities will benefit. They will gain 40% of net income annually from the project as per the Kenyan Climate Change Act 2024, as well as wages from planting & monitoring alongside benefitting from alternative livelihoods like beekeeping, crab farming & eco-tourism.

Thanks to the Kenya Forest Service for organising & chairing this community workshop. This includes a GIS expert, Mangrove Officer, County Forest Conservator & Forest Station Managers. Special thanks goes to the RFC - Regional Forest Conservator of the Coast for Kenya Forest Service - James Mburu. We have greatly enjoyed the thoughtful guidance and assistance given.

From the AD Kenya side, brilliant speeches were given by our CEO Harry Cook, local representative Jeremiah Muia & Project Manager Rita Mulatya. As well as Technical Consultants Isabella Masinde, A. & Peter Mwangi. Help with the presentations, photographs & report writing were given by our Origination Associate Madeleine Kay & Mangrove Ecologist miriam vihenda. With hard work behind the scenes from our trusty accountant Michael kiema, HR person Irene Kitti, Origination Associate Roan Ghataaura & GIS expert Mateus Mendes

A report of this workshop co-signed by the CFA members, Kenya Forest Service & Avatari Development is in the works!
