Our First Visit to World Agroforestry (ICRAF)

Following our visit to World Agroforestry (ICRAF) in Nairobi, we conducted an initial engagement in preparation for the planned soil analysis exercise.

The visit provided valuable insights into the end-to-end workflow involved in soil assessment and analysis. We were taken through a structured process beginning with concept development at the coordination level, where technical proposals are reviewed to define collaboration frameworks and budgeting requirements. This is followed by field sampling, laboratory analysis (both chemical and biological), spatial data processing, and ultimately integrated report generation.

Additionally, the engagement offered an opportunity to understand the standardised methodologies applied globally in soil analysis, particularly the Land Degradation Surveillance Framework (LDSF). The exposure to multiple interconnected laboratory units and analytical approaches highlighted the robustness and comprehensiveness of the system used to generate reliable soil health and land degradation assessments.
